Our Events and Fundraising Activities
We have a regular programme of weekly events during term time, usually at 7:30 pm on Thursdays in More House, you can find this term's programme on our events page. Many of our members are regular attendees of chaplaincy events, which includes both regular worship, and occasional socials.
In addition to those three types of event, we also engage in fundraising activity for our chosen charity for the year. Find out more about this year's charity here. Fundraising activities in previous years have included packing people's bags in Morrrisons, busking Christmas Carols in York city centre, and even flipping 20p coins into a bucket! Our biggest fundraising activity is our sponsored hike, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, a 25 mile circular route in the Yorkshire Dales, that also involves going over three mountains.
Here is a picture of those of us who did the Three Peaks Challenge in 2015
We also have two major events per year. Our major social event is the end of year ball, which for the last couple of years has taken place in the York Hilton. This is a night at the end of the year when all members of the society, and their friends, sit down for a meal, say goodbye to those who are leaving that year, and dance on into the night. Our major spiritual event is our annual retreat to Ampleforth Abbey, where we spend the weekend reflecting on the past year, and living, eating and praying with each other in the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors.
